Penny for a thought - King_Advsior_Sacrifice_This is Good!

Once there was a king who favoured one of his advisors very much because he was very wise and always gave useful advice. The king took him along wherever he goes.

One day, the king was bitten on the finger by a dog, and the wound quickly got infected. He asked the advisor if it was a bad sign. The advisor said, "This is good!"

The king's finger subsequently got so badly infected that it had to be amputated. The king asked the advisor again if it was a bad sign. Again, he said "This is good!" By this time, the king had lost his patience and sent the advisor to prison.

One day, the king went hunting in the jungle. In pursuit of a deer, he ventured deeper and deeper into the jungle and he was lost. To make matters worse, he was captured by the natives who lived inside the jungle. They were about to sacrifice him to their god, but when they noticed that the king was one finger short, they released him immediately. Apparently, he was no longer a "whole" person and was deemed unsuitable for sacrifice.

The king finally understood his advisor's wise response "This is good!". If he hadnt been bitten by the dog, he wouldnt have lost his finger, and if he hadnt lost his finger, he would have been sacrified by the natives.

He ordered the release of the advisor and apologised to him. But to the king's amazement, the advisor was not upset at all. Instead, he said, "It was a good thing you had me locked up."

"And why is that?" asked the monarch.

And the advisor replied, "Because if you hadnt locked me up, I would have followed you into the jungle. And then since you were suitable for sacrifice, the natives would have offered me instead!"

Nothing that happens in this world can be judged as absolutely good or bad. Taken in the right spirit, everything that happens can eventually lead to a postive thing. So when something unfortunate happens to you, dont despair? It might turn out to be a blessing afterall.

Another Joke of the Century - Alarm Clock Duty

I was on overnight shift work yesterday. Despite it was a rather relax sunday work, I was still quite tired. After all the essential works I had completed, I understand that I can wake up late in the morning.

However, it wasnt what as I thought as I was waken by the alarm clock set by another colleague who sleeps directly above mi. I got out of bed and then return to sleep when I realised it wasnt my time for the shift work. While my colleague saw mi got out of bed, he thought he had set wrong timing and thus, return to sleep.

What a confusion situation at such late hour, think it was 0510 hrs.

The Guardian - Movie Review

There are many life-saving occupations such as firefighters and lifeguards. However, little made known to many are the US Coast Guard Rescue Swimmers. These swimmers arent ordinary lifesavers, but are Rescue Swimmers who braved their lives in heavy storms and choppy seas, experiencing the coldest and most unexpected vast seas, from the SAR helicopters just to save lifes of total strangers. These men and women are indeed commendable and remarkable, demonstrating the true spirit of all mankind.

The Guardian is one movie that features Rescue Swimmers in action to save lifes, and also the training of the trainees in the 'A' school before graduating as Rescue Swimmers. This movie also has a nice story plot, which I will not mentioned here as the objective is to share about this nobel occupation.
If you like the HK firefighter movies and/or dramas, then I bet you will also enjoy this one. URL as follows: http://theguardian.movies.go.com//

Diary 14 Oct 06 - Round the World in 6 Months

Round the world trip in 6 months to major and minor cities maybe something rather impossible for many people to accomplish and fulfil. I felt honour upon learning that I am given this rare opportunity. Today, I started to analysis the situation and plan for my future as I have thoughts of leaving the organisation next Jun.

Some considerations:

1) How many people have the opportunity to travel round the world FOC (despite that there will be shitty jobs along the way) ??? I started to asked myself whether am I tempted to go for the trip, something which I doubt I can fulfil in this lifetime.

2) Next Jun I will be completing my Term 1.1 where I do not get any mometary returns. If I do go for the trip (inclusive of the half yr promotion bond), I am left wif appropriate 2 years 6 months. I might as well complete the entire Term 1.1 and 1.2 and get the mometary returns.

3) If I had decided to go for the trip and to complete my Term 1.1 and 1.2, I will request for some office job after the trip so I can further my studies. But this also depends on the job vanancies. Courses that I thought of taking up are NTU/NUS Mechanical Engg or EEE or SSC Sports Academy Bachelor of Applied Social Science (BASS).
`
4) Relationship. Self explanatory, I suppose.
